The
tourist who wants to have a good knowledge of the traditional culture of
southern Romagna can’t miss visiting the Ethnographic Museum of the Uses and
Customs of the People of Romagna, housed in a beautiful structure built in
1924 at the side of the road to San Vito - Bellaria. The Museum, called by
the regional poet Tonino Guerra La Capanna della Memoria (The
House of Memory), is divided into 15 sections illustrating the
traditional uses and customs of the people of Romagna, as The Grain and Wine
Traditional Production Cycle, Working the Land, The Hand Spinning and
Weaving, with the traditional printing on cloth, The Blacksmith’s Work, The
Production of Traditional String Instruments – that is to say the lutist’s
workshop – and The Rural Means of Transport. The exhibition brings also to
light the symbolic value connected with most of the 1500 objects and tools
exhibited. The Museum also promotes study congresses about Popular
Tradition.
