MUSEUM OF RIMINI
Dinz Rialto Non-European Civilization Museum
The Museum, founded in 1972, with the name of “Primitive Arts Museum”, later
called after the founder Delfino Ritz Rialto, explorer and collector born in Padua in 1920, housing one of the main Italian collections devoted to the
African, Oceanian and Pre-Columbian civilisations, with over 3000 findings that make this collection one of the most significant all over Europe, is
temporarily closed for re-housing in Palazzo Alvarado, now the seat of the Missionary Museum annexed to the Sanctuary of the Madonna delle Grazie in
Covignano. Ethnological and archaeological works from Black Africa - for the most part wooden artefacts, with few objects made of stone or metal, which
reach the level of works of art - from Melanesia, Polynesia, Australia and the Indian Archipelago - principally masks, sculptures of wood, tools and
weapons – archaeological findings from the main cultures of Mesoamerica before the arrival of the Conquistadores, and the “Ugo Canepa” Pre-Columbian
Archaeological Collection, which has been donated to the Dinz Rialto Museum, form this worthy collection.
