The Grand Hotel
During the belle époque Rimini was frequented by a very
refined clientele, coming either from Italy or from foreign
countries. The Municipality of Rimini gave the management of the
bathing establishments to a Milanese company which had also to build
a large hotel. Thus was built the superb Grand Hotel of Rimini,
designed in modern style by the architect Paolo Somazzi and
immortalized by the famous director Federico Fellini in his
masterpiece Amarcord. The Grand Hotel opened in July 1908 and
twelve years later took fire.
Built near the beach, the Grand Hotel had four floors with two
hundred rooms and a private bathing establishment. The Milanese
company provided also the surroundings with an excellent network of
illuminated roads and with numerous sports grounds, creating an
extremely refined and pleasant spot.
