The Amintore Galli Theater

The Amintore Galli Theater stands on the western edge of Piazza Cavour (Historical centre). It was built between 1843 and 1856 on the spot where previously stood a seventeenth-century edifice named dell’Abbondanza or dei Forni. Planned by the architect Luigi Poletti, the Amintore Galli Theater was opened in 1857 with the first night of “Aroldo” directed by Giuseppe Verdi. During World War II, the Amintore Galli Theater was severely damaged. Only the façade, the entrance hall, the Ressi hall, and the foyer, which were restored in 1972, remained untouched by the bombs.
